Reid, Dorsey put friendship to work in first draft with Chiefs

Chiefs general manager John Dorsey and coach Andy Reid don’t always agree — who does? — but they see football through the same lens. These are sure men who take their jobs seriously but not themselves, and maybe they like a little bit of that in their players. Be confident in yourself, while still knowing you need to get better.

Tyler Bray intriguing as a future Chiefs quarterback

Tennessee’s Tyler Bray has so many of the qualities NFL scouts like to see in a starting quarterback that he could have been drafted: a big arm, classic size (6-feet-6, 232 pounds) and plenty of college production. The Chiefs signed him after the draft despite his negatives: lack of maturity and poor work habits.

Chiefs resume offseason practices

The Chiefs returned to the practice field and resumed their voluntary offseason program on Tuesday morning. They’ll work three days this week, four days next week and conduct a mandatory minicamp during June 4-6 before adjourning until training camp opens in late July in St. Joseph.

Some praise for Tyson Jackson and Dontari Poe from a Chiefs newcomer

The one position group that received little attention from Chiefs general manager John Dorsey and coach Andy Reid during free agency and the NFL Draft was the defensive line. Veteran defensive end Mike DeVito, who joined the Chiefs as a free agent, is impressed with linemates Dontari Poe and Tyson Jackson (pictured).

Chiefs’ inside linebacker competition should be interesting

One of the most interesting competitions that should develop at training camp is at one inside linebacker position, the spot next to Derrick Johnson. For now, veteran Akeem Jordan is the starter. But also don’t underestimate what the Chiefs think of rookie Nico Johnson (pictured), a fourth-round draft pick from Alabama.

Chiefs searching for clear-cut second receiver alongside Dwayne Bowe

The Chiefs are working to develop one or more receivers capable of helping Dwayne Bowe (center) boost their passing game. Jon Baldwin is the other starter with Bowe and leads the list of candidates, but hasn’t yet emerged as the dominant offseason player he was last season before faltering when the games started. Other candidates are Terrance Copper (left) and Dexter McCluster (right).

Chiefs sign K-State’s Wilson

The Chiefs have signed fullback Braden Wilson of Kansas State, the second of the team’s two sixth-round draft picks. Wilson is the fourth of Kansas City’s eight selections to sign with the club.

Chiefs' OTA practice Tuesday at Arrowhead

The offseason practice schedule picked up for the Chiefs on Tuesday, when they held the first of three full-squad sessions this week. Quarterback Alex Smith and receiver Dwayne Bowe (pictured) practiced, and lineman Branden Albert reported as expected.

Chiefs add former Nevada head coach as consultant

The Chiefs added another offensive specialist to their coaching staff, hiring former University of Nevada coach Chris Ault as a consultant. Ault is known as a guru of the pistol offensive formation, which features option plays. Colin Kaepernick was among the quarterbacks who played for Ault at Nevada.

Chiefs sign third-round pick Knile Davis

Running back Knile Davis, selected by the Chiefs in the third round of the NFL Draft last month, signed with the Chiefs. The Chiefs are hoping the 227-pound Davis can be a power back to complement the speed and big-play ability of Jamaal Charles.

Seahawks part ways with Portis

The Seattle Seahawks announced Tuesday they had waived backup quarterback Josh Portis, a day after it was revealed he had been arrested on suspicion of DUI on May 5.

Title game's return excites ex-49ers

SANTA CLARA, Calif.-Roger Craig was 24 years old and in his second NFL season the only time a Super Bowl has been played in the Bay Area. Before Craig took the field at Stanford Stadium that day, veteran linebacker Jack "Hacksaw" Reynolds pulled him aside and offered some advice.
