Shaka Smart has passed up other chances to leave VCU

Texas-El Paso’s Tim Floyd and Central Missouri’s Kim Anderson have been linked to Missouri’s open men’s basketball job. But the list of coaches who say no one from MU or an intermediary has reached out is considerably longer. Another name that has popped up on wish lists is VCU’s Shaka Smart, but it seems unlikely the Tigers could lure him.

Defending NCAA champion KU women’s track team motivated to win more

When Kansas track coach Stanley Redwine and Lindsay Vollmer, the individual NCAA champion in the heptathlon, waited to shake hands with President Obama in March, they experienced the twin feelings of accomplishment and motivation. The defending NCAA champions will take to the track this week for the KU Relays at Rock Chalk Park, the new $39 million facility that also includes new venues for the KU softball and soccer programs.

Point guard Devonte Graham to visit KU on Friday

In its ongoing search for additional options in the backcourt, Kansas will play host this weekend to Devonte Graham, one of the top available point guards in the 2014 class. Graham, a 6-foot-2 guard from Brewster Academy, will take an official visit to KU starting on Friday, his prep school coach, Jason Smith, announced on Twitter. Kansas coach Bill Self visited Graham on Friday.

KU defense looks to make its mark

One year after unveiling a retooled and inexperienced defense, the Jayhawks now feature one of the most veteran units in the Big 12. Kansas is slated to return nine starters on defense, including six seniors and its entire secondary.

KU’s Joel Embiid to follow Andrew Wiggins into NBA Draft

Joel Embiid’s freshman season at Kansas was cut short because of a back injury. His basketball career at KU was cut short by his enormous potential. With Jayhawks coach Bill Self by his side, Embiid announced Wednesday at a news conference that he’ll enter the NBA Draft, closing his college career after 28 games.
