Q. What is The Kansas City Star Plus?

A. The Kansas City Star Plus provides immediate and unlimited access to all content on our newspaper's website (, our iOS and Android apps and our electronic replica edition (E-Edition), in addition to your printed newspaper subscription. The Kansas City Star Plus bundles all the ways you can read The Star's content into one price.


Q. How does the digital subscription work? A. With a digital subscription, you will have unlimited access to all digital content. Without a digital subscription, your access to our site will be limited to 5 pages every 30 days. Once you reach the 5-page limit, you'll need to subscribe or wait 30 days to view additional content. Mobile devices have a higher limit. Access to E-Star will require a digital subscription.


Q. What are my digital subscription options?

A. There are several options.  Star newspaper subscribers will have the digital bundle with unlimited digital access for $ .69 a week. This is available whether you subscribe 7 days a week or less. If you want digital-only access, without a print subscription, the digital bundle alone will be $12.95 per month (or $142.45 per year if paid annually). New digital package subscribers will receive the first month for .99 cents. The digital subscription will automatically renew at the $12.95 per month price.


Q.Can I comment or read the comments without paying for a digital subscription?

A. You will be able to make comments until you reach 5 free pages on the desktop view.  Mobile devices have a higher limit. After that, you'll need a digital subscription.


Q. Will I be able to use my Star iPhone app or Mobile reader without paying for a digital subscription?

A. Without a digital subscription, your access will be limited to 55 pages every 30 days on the iPhone and Android apps and 65 pages on the iPad app. Once you reach the page limit, you’ll need to subscribe or wait 30 days to view additional content.


Q. What if I don't want digital access?

A. Most of our readers use, E-Star or our mobile apps, so bundling them makes sense. If you never use the website, don’t have a smartphone or tablet, you can opt out of the digital portion. To opt out, call us at 877-962-7827 and press 8 for an operator to assist you.


Q. Why isn't free any more?

A. Readers the world over will continue to have unlimited access to some portions of our website. For story content, breaking news, commenting, opinions and the rest of the site, readers will receive 5 free page views in a 30 day period. Readers can get 5 pages for free every 30 days; more avid online readers will be asked to pay a fee to continue reading, and print subscribers, who are some of our most loyal customers, are entitled to discounted access to a digital subscription. They will pay just .69 cents a week for their digital subscription. That is a 75 percent discount off of the digital package price.

The world of news and information keeps changing, and the newspaper industry continues to be at the forefront of that change. Technological advances of the last decade provide us all with the convenience of mobile phones, tablets and an array of social media channels, and our readers want the same instant access to their newspaper. So we have transformed our business to deliver breaking news in and through a variety of platforms, becoming 24/7 information specialists.

The changes also require a change in our business model. We can no longer expect advertising to support all these platforms and options, so our readers will now share the support more equitably.


Q. What happens if I use only a few of my “free” pages when the month runs out?

A. The count for free pages will start over every 30 days, not on a monthly calendar.


Q. Can everyone in my household use the same digital account?

A. Yes. Your digital subscription can be shared. Your account can be accessed simultaneously from a home computer, work computer or e-reader with the same log in credentials.


Q. Will access to the e-Edition be included in my digital subscription?

A. Yes. You will just enter the account information for your digital subscription when prompted to access e-star and For the iPad e-Edition, customers will need to download the app through iTunes.


Q. I subscribe to The Star print edition, but not for all 7 days. Do I still receive the digital subscription access all 7 days?

A. Yes. All home delivery subscribers will have the digital bundle added for .69 cents a week. Your digital access is good 24 hours a day, seven days a week.


Q. If I have a computer at home and a computer at my office, do I need to purchase two digital subscriptions?

A. No. You can log in using your account username and password from wherever you access the Internet.


Q. Can everyone in my household use the same account?

A. Yes, you can use the same account for all your family members.


Q. Is the popup “subscribe” window a secure URL?

A. Yes. If you right-click on the window and “view frame info” or “frame source,” you'll see it's an https URL.


Q. What is the cancellation policy?

A. You may cancel your subscription at any time. When you cancel, we will stop charging your account the following billing cycle. Your unlimited access will continue for the remainder of the current 30-day period. Afterward, you will still be able to view 5 pages per 30-day period on at no charge, just like any other visitor.
