Q: I read your article about Carroll Lewis in an email put out by Susan Shea Worthington called The Lexington Connection. Mr. Lewis was the Music director in Lexington Missouri before teaching at Raytown. He was a phenominal teacher!! I had the privilege of being one of his students, Chorus, Girl's Glee Club and Sextet. I would like information about where I can purchase his CD. Thanks.
Answered 07/22/05 14:46:09 by Brian McTavish
A: Hi, Diana.
I phoned Dr. Lewis, and he sounded pleased by your request. He also remembered your name.
You can order his CD through Raytown Jewelry. I don't think they do e-mail. Their number is (816) 353-1024.

Q: Comics: Where is Bizarro? I LOVE that comic. It was missing in Saturday's paper. I hope that was just a fluke. And what about Mallard Fillmore? Can we try that one? I got hooked on both these comics when I lived in Washington DC. I've been on hold, trying to telephone the Star with these comments, for 25 minutes. If there's a better way to reach someone at the Star about this, please tell me! Thanks!
Answered 11/23/04 16:47:11 by Brian McTavish
A: Jenny:
The one-time absence of "Bizarro" was, indeed, a fluke. To express your desire to have "Mallard Fillmore" (or any other favorite strip) added to The Star's comics pages, I suggest that you contact our readers' representative, Derek Donovan. Derek's photo and a brief explanation of his gig runs daily on page A2. He is there to field any and all questions and comments regarding the paper. You can reach him at (816) 234-4487 or by e-mail at readerrep@kcstar.
Thanks for your interest. And keep reading those comics.

Q: Does anyone actually go to see greyhound racing anymore? Between the animal abuse reports and the seediness of the tracks, what is the appeal?
Answered 10/25/04 14:28:13 by Brian McTavish
A: My guess: Take away the betting and no one would be interested.

Q: Hey, I read your answer that said you would like to see a Flash movie. I'm not a big fan of the Flash, but I would love to see a Green Lantern movie or a Iron Man movie. Who would you have to play both parts?
Answered 10/20/04 15:56:55 by Brian McTavish
A: Tom Cruise as Tony Stark/Iron Man has been talked about and would be very cool. And how about Jim "Passion of the Christ" Caviezel as GL?

Q: I read months ago that there is a smokefree night club in Kansas City. Where can people go to dance, have an adult beverage and not breathe secondhand smoke?
Answered 09/29/04 14:50:42 by Brian McTavish
A: Pat:
The Blue Room, part of the Kansas City Jazz Museum at 18th and Vine, is a smoke-free place to throw one back and/or hear live jazz.

Q: Do you think that comic books (or comix, as some say) will ever attain the widespread level of acceptance as "high art" or mainstream entertainment in this country, as they have in Japan and elsewhere?
Answered 09/29/04 14:43:54 by Brian McTavish
A: Greg:
I'd like to think so, but I'm not overly optimistic. Whether seen as "high" or "low" art, the fact is that comics in this country don't reach nearly as many readers as they used to.Ironically, even as comic-book sales stagnate, characters taken from comic books are providing the masses with plenty of big-screen entertainment at the movies, from "Ghost World" and "Amercian Splendor" to the "Spider-Man" franchise and the upcoming "Batman" flick.
It sounds like your a comics fan, so hang in there. Unsolicited tip: Buy what you like, not what you think will go up in value. Then, no matter, what you'll always be satisfied with your purchase.

Q: There's been a tremendous influx of comic book movies (which I personally love). Besides the Fantastic Four, is there another comic book hero your dying to see portrayed on the big screen?
Answered 09/29/04 14:32:13 by Brian McTavish
A: Anonymous:
Wouldn't it be cool to see a big-budget movie about the Flash?
DC Comics' "Fastest Man Alive" already got some exposure in the Tom Hanks/Leonardo DeCaprio movie, "Catch Me if You Can." Old Flash comic books play a part in the story, including the name of the Flash's alter-ego, Barry Allen.
