The cover story of the July 30 edition of Ink was penned by a freelance writer. The first section of The Star’s code of ethics is clear that it applies to staff members as well as freelance or contract contributors.

The Ink story was a look at various attractions at this month’s First Friday. It highlighted six exhibitions to see. Three of them were affiliated with the nonprofit Belger Arts Center, but the author of the piece is an executive assistant for that organization.

This relationship is in violation of the newsroom code of ethics. The story is being removed from the Ink website, and there will be an editor’s note in next week’s print edition.
