Every time the Olympics roll around, I hear from readers making a request similar to several I’ve gotten over the past day:
“Please do not post information about who won an event prior to it airing on U.S. TV as a headline in the latest news.”
Believe me: I sympathize. I usually record my favorite TV show —AMC’s The Walking Dead
— to watch later in the evening on Sunday nights because of my schedule. And I have had plot points spoiled for me by people in my Twitter streams.
But in 2014, I’m afraid that’s simply something we’re all going to have to make peace with. NBC delays their coverage in order to increase viewership numbers.
The rest of the worldwide media can’t be expected to embargo current events to help with that. During events such as this, the only way not to see results is for viewers to participate in their own self-imposed media blackouts.
