I’ve heard mostly good things from readers about Sunday’s story “LP’s World,” concerning what documents reveal about the life of LP, the little girl whose rescue from a closet in her mother’s apartment shocked Kansas City several months ago.

One caller this morning said she thought the story was very well done, and she particularly complimented its visual presentation in print. The illustration of the “scary-looking” closet caught her eye, she said.

The only thing wrong with that is the fact that she was really seeing a photograph of the actual closet. Star photographer Keith Myers got into the apartment to take new pictures of where LP was held.

“You should tell them they should have written that in bigger letters above the photograph then,” she said. “I think that’s remarkable journalism, and you should let everyone know that’s what it was.”

The photo caption did make it clear, but she’s right that it was fairly small. I can imagine others would have mistaken it as well.
