U.S. 24 bridge to close in Northeast Kansas City for repairs

Motorists who take Independence Avenue past the old Armco Steel plant will have to find a new route starting on Monday through June 16 because of deck repairs.

People living in Northeast Kansas City who use Independence Avenue to get to Interstate 435 or to Independence starting on Monday will have to find a different route.

Independence Avenue, also known as U.S. 24 as the bridge that runs past the old Armco Steel plant and over the Big Blue River, is to close through June 16 from Ewing Avenue to Manchester Trafficway for repair work.

Motorists will have to use Truman Road or 23rd Street. The detour is a minor inconvenience for the badly needed repairs to the deck of the highway.
