First there was RadioShack reporting this week that it will close up to 1,100 stores. Now Staples reports that it plans to shut down 225 of its stores by the end of 2015.
Both companies have reported disappointing revenue. Both companies have had to keep up with shifting consumer demands and more business migrating to the online world.
The news from RadioShack and Staples may be indicative of what’s to come from other major electronics and office supply companies. They also may tell the tale of how well the U.S. economy is really doing.
Unemployment numbers for February are to be released Friday. That may be another indicator of how well things are going.
