The Republicans in the House need to be thanked for one positive effect of the government shutdown they forced on people.
It resulted the cancellation of a Ku Klux Klan rally at the Gettysburg National Military Park. The rally had been approved for a Maryland-based KKK group for Saturday.
But House Republicans, trying to derail President Barack Obama’s signature Affordable Care Act, refused to compromise in 11th-hour efforts to pass legislation to finance parts of the new fiscal year starting Tuesday. That shutdown of nonessential parts of the federal government is idling thousands of workers nationwide for the first time in 17 years.
It also caused park officials to withdrawn all permits for special events, including the KKK rally at Gettysburg National Military Park. The site is where thousands of Americans died fighting for the Union and the Confederacy in the Civil War, which was over slavery.
Guess which side the KKK would have been honoring?
