After years of discussion, it’s good that nonprofit, community-based organizations will finally get a home.
Kansas City Sustainable Development Partners, led by architect Bob Berkebile, is buying Westport Middle School at 300 E. 39th St. It will be the new home for the Center for Community Vitality.
The Kansas City school board on Wednesday night agreed to sell the building, which was among many that the school district has closed. Westport High School across the street also needs a new owner and use.
Nonprofit groups pushing healthy living have been meeting for years about having one space where they all could operate to have more opportunities for collaboration. Berkebile has been involved in those talks.
The old school is a great location, and offers plenty of space for offices and community gatherings in the Midtown area.
