It’s a sad week for the family of former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. and his constituents in Chicago.
On Wednesday, Jackson was sentenced to two and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to spending $750,000 in campaign funds on luxury items. His wife, Sandra Jackson, received a one year sentence.
The two will serve their time so that their children will have one parent in the home. The former 48-year-old lawmaker will go first.
The unfortunate thing is it will draw out the prison time for everyone in the family.
Jackson had been hospitalized earlier for treatment of a mental illness. He resigned his office last November.
His going to prison is a sad end to what could have been a good political career.
