Afghan President Hamid Karzai keeps giving the Obama administration reasons to pull U.S. troops out of Afghanistan as soon as possible.

The latest outrage is Karzai’s government wants to charge the United States an exit tax as U.S. withdraws its military equipment, food supplies and other goods, The Associated Press reports. That is in addition to the billions of dollars and American lives that the United States has poured into stabilizing and rebuilding that country, not to mention the cash given directly to Karzai.

U.S. officials seem to have finally gotten the fact that the United States has been played by the Afghans since day one. Senators are threatening to withhold $5 in foreign aid to Afghanistan for every $1 in fees that the Afghans might charge.

Withholding all aid and exiting now seems like a better plan.
