Bike lanes will benefit Kansas City

Kansas City is catching up to other metropolitan areas as they try to make the roads more friendly for people on bicycles. Now if someone could just send that memo to motorists.

The Kansas City Council has taken an important step in approving plans to add bike lanes to nearly 12 miles of pavement downtown next year.

More people are either using their own bicycles or renting bikes to go from place to place. The bike lanes and “sharrows” will be along Grand Boulevard, 18th Street, 20th Street, West Pennway and Beardsley Road, The Kansas City Star reports.

Existing bike lanes include those on Southwest Boulevard leading into downtown and along Armour Boulevard. Kansas City is catching up to other metropolitan areas as they try to make the roads more friendly for people on bicycles.
