Sagging was a fad about 20 years ago in which boys and young men wore baggy, oversized pants so low that their undershorts — or worse — were offensively visible.
But the trend among young males just won’t die. Girls and women even put up with the mess, walking proudly with their guys who are forced to waddle like penguins because their pants are so low.
But the unlikely beach town of Wildwood, N.J., may have hit upon a solution.
The town council voted unanimously this week to ban from its boardwalk people wearing pants three inches below the hips. The law goes into effect next month.
People convicted could pay fines of $25 to $200 for sagging offenses and possibly have to perform 40 hours of community service. The law is to go into effect in July.
Laws can help modify people’s bad behavior. Let’s hope this one catches on elsewhere — like a fad.
