Long overdue in the urban core is the new Prosperity Center for Financial Opportunity.
It will be at 5151 Troost Ave., and starting June 18 coaches will be available to help people in the community job hunt and better manage their finances. The center is open to moderate- and low-income people.
It’s part of the Rockhurst University campus, The Kansas City Star reports. The center hopes to work with families one to two years to improve their income and wealth.
Success will be measured in jobs and improved credit scores. Success also should include bank accounts opened and maintained and investment funds established to buy homes and send children to college.
Centers like this one should be in every neighborhood in Kansas City instead of check cashing services, payday loan outfits and title loan joints.
