GOP proposes to keep Guantanamo prison open

Poor Barack Obama. He could say it was raining outside, and the Republicans in Congress would swear that he was lying, saying emphatically that it’s actually sunny.

Then the Republicans would slather on sunscreen and step outside to soak up some rays to try to prove their point. That’s the case — again — with President Obama proposing to continue with plans to close the U.S. military-run Guantanamo Bay detention facility and House Republicans balking.

Republicans have proposed keeping Guantanamo open to prevent Obama from transferring its 166 terror suspects to prisons in the U.S. or other countries.

Will House Republicans and Obama work out their differences? Maybe when it snows at Guantanamo.
