Privacy issues continue to dominate companies’ and individuals’ concerns.
Home Depot joins a growing number of retailers hit by a credit card data breach. Last month a Department of Homeland Security advisory reported that more than 1, 000 businesses in the United States have been affected by cyberattacks that hit cash register systems.
Target reported in December that a data breach may have affected 40 million credit and debit card accounts. Brian Krebs of Krebs on Security reports that the Home Depot breach may have been by the same group of Russian and Ukrainian hackers thought to be responsible for the attack on Target, The Associated Press reports.
In addition, people also are concerned — albeit with less at stake — with hundreds of private, and in some cases racy, photographs being exposed because of a security breach. Hollywood celebrities appear to be the target, Apple Inc. notes, and what occurred is not a widespread security breach. The celebrities include Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton.
The photos surfaced on the online message board 4chan. Anonymous posters were responsible, The Washington Post reports.
