Joplin storm contained a rare multivortex tornado

The death toll has risen to 122 from Sunday’s Joplin tornado, a rare “multivortex” twister that the National Weather Service now classifies as EF-5, its strongest category, with winds exceeding 200 mph. As the hunt for surivors continued Tuesday in Joplin, tornadoes and strong thunderstorms in Kansas and Oklahoma brought more fatalities.
