A group opposing the Kansas City Council’s vote to outsource ambulance billing turned in hundreds of pages of petition signatures Tuesday to try to force a public election on the issue.
The committee of petitioners needs to gather 7,144 signatures of registered voters, and organizers said they are close to meeting that goal. If election officials determine this current batch of signatures is insufficient, the group has 10 more days to complete the task. If they gather enough signatures, it would place the measure on an election ballot.
