The Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department is giving away free smoke detectors to city residents, it announced today.
The detectors are being made possible by a recent $3,000 grant from Wal-Mart at the Legends, firefighters said.
They will be available at the Fire Prevention Office at Fire Headquarters at 815 N. 6th St. during normal office hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Those seeking an alarm must show proof of residency, firefighters said.
