The Raytown School District will honor six alumni by placing them in the Raytown Schools Alumni Hall of Fame Class of 2009.
The alumni will be honored through induction ceremonies held Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
Members of the Class of 2009 Alumni Hall of Fame are: Dennis Allen, Raytown High School, 1956; Richard Simpson, Raytown High School, 1963; Mary Phyl Dwight, Raytown South High School, 1970; April Pottorff, Raytown High School, 1986; Jason White, Raytown High School, 1987; and Ronnie Williams Jr., Raytown South High School, 1988.
The inductees will visit Raytown and Raytown South high schools on Oct. 30.
On Oct. 31, they will be honored guests at the Raytown-Raytown South football game and then will be formally inducted Nov. 1.
The Raymore-Peculiar High School speech and debate team recently received a national honor and won awards in a local tournament.
The team qualified for the National Forensic League’s 100 Club for achieving more than 100 degrees during the 2008-2009 school year.
During the Oak Park tournament, the team placed third overall in varsity sweepstakes. The students placed in the competition as follows:
•Dramatic interpretation: Hayley Farrell, third place; and Rebekah Youmans, fifth place
•Duo interpretation: Farrell and Seth Jones, fifth place
•Humorous interpretation: Nellie Maple, second place.
•Oratory: Markeyta Young, second place.
•Poetry: Maple, first place; and Jones, fifth place.
•Public forum debate: Farrell and Megan Settle, second place
• Student congress: Nicole Heits, third place.
St. John LaLande Catholic School and Parish will host its annual Christmas Holiday Auction 2009 at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the school, 801 N.W. R.D. Mize Road in Blue Springs.
The auction, which is free and open to the public, includes live and silent auctions, as well as raffles. Dinner will be provided by Carrabba’s Italian Grill. Tickets for the dinner are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. The live auction will begin at 8:45 p.m. Auction items include tickets for the University of Missouri-Columbia/University of Kansas basketball game, an aerobatic airplane flight for one and a Notre Dame football weekend.
