Rock on, Guitar Hero robot

More News

Lee’s Summit West’s Robotics Team’s Guitar Hero robot performed for Cerner Corp. at Kemper Arena this month.

A Guitar Hero playing robot created by the Lee’s Summit West High School robotics team, Team Titanium, was the featured entertainment at a Cerner Corporation Town Hall event at Kemper Arena this month.

More than 2,000 Cerner employees watched as the guitar-playing robot challenged Cerner employees to robot vs. human “face offs” with the popular video game. Cerner recruited two of the company’s best Guitar Hero players to each face the robot, but they were no match for his mechanized precision.

The entertainment was the prelude to the company’s annual employee town hall style meeting. The robot, nicknamed “Titan,” was an off-season summer project for the team. The project helped the students sharpen their programming skills and have some fun with technology.

The robot has become a popular celebrity for the team, making appearances at sporting events, and on a recent “Cool Schools” segment on KCTV-5. Titan is scheduled to appear at the team’s science and engineering camps, elementary schools visits and other events and will become an ambassador for the Lee’s Summit R-7 Robotics Alliance. The alliance is a cooperative partnership with the other R-7 robotics teams, Team Driven of Lee’s Summit High School, and the Broncobots of Lee’s Summit North High School, designed to build awareness and support for the FIRST robotics program.
