If you can’t drive it, don’t buy it.
This woman apparently didn’t get the memo.
She found a great parking spot Saturday at Katie’s Cars & Coffee in Great Falls, Va., a popular gathering spot for owners of “exotics, antiques and classic cars,” according to its website.
But something went horribly wrong. She backed her Mercedes-Benz 380SL Roadster on top of a Ferrari while trying one of those tricky parallel parking maneuvers.
Never miss a local story.
A crowd quickly gathered.
Someone captured the moment the owner of the 458 Speciale, speculated to be worth from $300,000 to $500,000, walked up and saw what she did.
“Are you serious? Are you (bleeping) serious?” the man exclaims. “That is the dumbest thing I have ever seen.”
The woman, who had two small boys and another adult in the car with her, looks like she’s going to hurl.
“Oh my god, I am shaking,” she says.
(We bet her insurance agent is, too.)
The accident quickly made the rounds among car buffs — and worldwide news, for that matter.
Noted one Australian news outlet: “So blasphemous was the poor woman’s error that the attendant gawkers stayed hushed as they gravely filmed the abomination.
“There was no such restraint from the owner of the 458, however, who saw rosso corsa upon spying the smash.”
Autoblog wondered how in the world the woman couldn’t fit the Mercedes into such a big parking spot. “Even a semi-competent driver could have maneuvered a vehicle far larger than a 15-foot-long roadster between the two cars with room to spare.” it opined.
Carscoops blog reported that “after the classic drop-top Roadster was moved from its precarious condition, it is reported that a number of severe scratches were visible on the Ferrari’s hood and bumper.”
In this mash-up the Mercedes won, said one YouTube commenter. “Gotta love that German build quality,” he wrote. “Hardly a scuff on that Benz.”
File this under first-world problems.
