Why did the chicken cross the road?
Who cares, because it’s a photo of a law-abiding alligator crossing the road that’s gone viral this week.
Deputies with the Flagler County Sheriff’s office in Palm Coast, Fla. first spotted the 5-foot gator hanging out Monday in some bushes near a busy intersection before it walked out onto the sidewalk.
Then it suddenly “scampered” off across the road.
“He just walked in the crosswalk like it was normal,” officer Kenny Goncalves said on the department’s Facebook page.
The Orlando Sentinel suggested that the gator didn’t want to take any risk with Florida drivers, but wondered it it looked both ways before crossing the street.
Goncalves and another deputy stopped traffic for 30 seconds while the gator used the crosswalk safely.
No ticket was issued, or necessary.
Before a trapper from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission arrived on the scene, Mr. Gator disappeared into a wooded lot.
The photo of the crossing has been shared more than 3,000 times on the sheriff’s department’s Facebook page.
