End of Guard sponsorship of NASCAR splits Congress

Military officials blamed Congress for forcing them to make tough cuts. Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Missouri Democrat, said the National Guard’s move was long overdue. Sen. Kay Hagan, a North Carolina Democrat, disagreed, saying the sponsorship “has strengthened recruitment and retention.”
