KANSAS CITY, NORTH | Guilty plea in two deaths
A Kansas City man pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of two people in December 2006.
Lark E. Gardner Jr. had allegedly joined three others in robbing a home in the 4200 block of Northeast 44th Street. The home was believed to be a drug house, according to a probable cause statement from Kansas City police.
During the robbery, one of Gardner’s co-defendants, Prentiss R. Fulton, shot and killed Angela Windle, 18, and Patrick Hooton, 22, while injuring two others.
Fulton was convicted on two counts of first-degree murder earlier this month.
KANSAS CITY, KAN. | Man found slain
Police early Friday found a man shot dead inside a vehicle.
The victim was LeDion D. Brown, 19, of Kansas City, Kan., police said. They found him when they responded to reports of a shooting about 12:15 a.m. in the 1300 block of North Fourth Street.

KANSAS CITY | Woman killed in wreck
A 25-year-old woman died Thursday night in a one-car crash on Interstate 70, but a 4-year-old boy was expected to recover.
Kansas City police said both were passengers in a 1990 Acura Integra that was eastbound about 10:45 p.m. when the driver struck a concrete barrier near Troost Avenue. Police are investigating.
The victim was identified as Amy Hastings of Adrian, Mo. The boy, thought to be her son, was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The driver, a 25-year-old man, also suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
KANSAS CITY | Bar patron shot
Police are looking for four men who barged into an east Kansas City bar on Thursday night, ordered everyone to the floor and shot one patron in the chest.
According to a police report, the suspects showed up at the 2400 Club, 4820 E. 24th St., about 10:30 p.m. Witnesses told police the men yelled “Everyone get down!” and then one headed toward the victim with a long gun and fired several rounds. The men stole a woman’s purse before running out.
The shooting victim’s injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
KANSAS CITY | Second burglary one too many
Persistence did not pay off for a group of alleged burglars.
Chased off by the resident of a house being burglarized Tuesday, they were arrested two days later after allegedly breaking into the same house.
Jackson County prosecutors on Friday charged Cory K. Williams, 20, and Dionte Shelton, 18, in connection with both break-ins in the 7700 block of James A. Reed Road.
Jerimie T. McDonald, 21, was charged with burglary in connection with the incident Thursday.
KANSAS CITY, KAN. | Free smoke alarms
The Fire Department is giving away smoke detectors to city residents.
The detectors — purchased with a $3,000 grant from Wal-Mart at The Legends at Village West — will be available at the fire prevention office at fire headquarters at 815 N. Sixth St. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Those seeking an alarm must show proof of residency.
GOODLAND, KAN. | Sunflower State snowfall
Parts of northwest Kansas on Thursday got up to 10 inches of snow, but the National Weather Service says the white stuff will be gone by the end of the weekend as temperatures rise into the 50s and 60s.
Rawlins County saw the biggest accumulation.
