The Kansas City Zoo has had its 500,000th visitor this year, reaching that milestone Saturday.
“We are celebrating,” said Julie Neemeyer, the zoo’s marketing director.
The zoo had as many as 630,000 visitors in 1995, but attendance has dropped since then, coming in at fewer than 400,000 in 2006. Recent improvements in exhibits and amenities, plus good weather this summer and fall, have contributed to an uptick in visitors.
