William Caster said he just moved nearby and noticed that the U.S. flag flies all night on the north lawn of the Liberty Memorial with little or no lighting.
“Isn’t that a no-no?”The answer
Yes, the flag should be “properly illuminated” at night, according to the U.S. Flag Code, and officials at the Liberty Memorial are working to make that happen again.
An electrical problem caused the outage and it’s a bit complicated to repair, said Mike Vietti, marketing and communications manager for the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial.
“The parts to make that fix are on order,” said Vietti, who estimated that it could be a couple of weeks before the parts arrive and repairs can be made.
The usually irreverent Watchdog knows that snark has no place in a discussion of the American flag. He sends out a three woof salute to Caster and the Liberty Memorial folks for caring about how Old Glory is displayed.
