Kansas City had a surprise visitor Wednesday night — former Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife.
Catherine Hanaway, a Republican candidate for Missouri governor, tweeted pictures of herself with the Cheney and his wife, Lynne.
“A big thank you to Mr. Vice President and Mrs. Cheney for coming to KC to support” the KC convention bid, Hanaway wrote.
Sources confirmed that Cheney urged the committee to consider an early summer convention. That could favor KC’s bid because the city doesn’t have NBA or NHL teams that would have a hold on the Sprint Center during the time of the convention.
Cheney also praised Kansas City’s hosting of the 1976 convention, which surely brought back memories for the former vice president, who served as chief of staff to then-President Gerald Ford.
Ford, of course, won the presidential nomination that year over a fierce challenge from Ronald Reagan.
