Sen. Claire McCaskill

is wading more deeply into the debate over college athletics and the NCAA.

Her office released a letter Tuesday addressed to

Mark Emmert

, the head of the NCAA. In the letter, McCaskill and two other Democratic senators ask for a series of documents from the NCAA about its treatment of athletes.

“We are concerned that insufficient oversight exists to ensure the the NCAA and its member institutions are taking adequate steps to protect student-athletes from exploitation,” the letter says.

Cory Booker of New Jersey and Jay Rockefeller

of West Virginia also signed the letter.

A hearing is scheduled.

National Labor Relations Board has said football players at Northwestern can hold a unionization vote, which has taken place. The results aren’t yet known.
