Missouri lawmakers included a $5 million bump in funding in the Division of Tourisms budget that is aimed at helping Kansas City cover the costs of hosting the 2016 Republican National Convention.

The money will only be allocated if the city is chosen by the GOP to host the gathering. It was included in the budget by the Senate last month, and it survived a conference committee hearing this morning where differences between the House and Senate budgets are being worked out.

The entire budget still needs to be approved by both legislative chambers one more time before it is sent to the governor.
