Blunt: SCOTUS decision on campaign finance no big deal

The Missouri Republican says the decision lifting the cap on aggregate campaign donations won’t change the way candidates and groups get money for elections.

In a conference call with Missouri reporters Wednesday, Sen. Roy Blunt R-Mo. said he didn’t think the Supreme Court’s decision

on campaign finance would have much impact on campaigns.

In a 5-4 ruling,

the Court said aggregate limits

on what an individual can give to candidates and parties are unconstitutional. The limit on giving to a specific campaign remains, but a donor can give to numerous candidates without an overall limit.

“I assume it will have some impact, but not a lot of impact,” Blunt said. He said wealthy donors might “cringe” because they no longer can claim they’ve hit the ceiling when candidates ask for help.
