U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt and Kansas City Mayor Sly James

will spend some quality time together Friday, Blunt’s office says.

The two will tour the Port of Kansas City in the West Bottoms. The port is undergoing renovations to accept barge traffic.

The Republican senator and Democratic governor will discuss federal efforts to encourage repair of roads, bridges, and other damaged infrastructure.

Long-time Kansas Citians will remember former Sen.

Kit Bond’s public relationship with then-mayor Emanuel Cleaver

. That relationship resulted in millions of dollars in federal funds for area projects.

Perhaps the two will discuss fixed rail transit.
