Politico and other media outlets say Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus has picked Enid Micklesen

to chair the site selection committee for the 2016 party nominating convention.

Mickelsen is a former member of Congress from Utah and a national committeewoman. The party is expected to pick the other members of the site selection committee this week.

At one time

Salt Lake City was considered a major competitor for the 2016 convention site, but now the city has reportedly dropped its bid

. So the appointment of a Utahn as site selection chair is not as troublesome for Kansas City’s bid, or anyone else’s, as might be assumed.

The site selection process is expected to conclude sometime this year. The convention is in 2016, although the exact month isn’t yet clear.
