It’s a simple invitation and a simple idea:
“Chili, beer and books,” said Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill.
Every year, McCaskill holds an exclusive book swap gathering for the Senate class of 2006. The rules: Each senator brings a copy of the best book they’ve read that year. Then they drop it in a basket by the front door.
Then McCaskill brings in the basket, and each senator picks one out.
“The fun part is you have to guess whose book it was,” McCaskill said. “And after you guess, that senator personally inscribes it to the senator who picked it.”
