Guess who’s still getting paid during the shutdown?

An extended shutdown means that most federal employees won’t get paid.

But, and this is a big “but,”

that doesn’t apply to members of Congress themselves.

Their pay is protected by the 27th Amendment. That amendment also blocks Congress from freezing or cutting its compensation.

Some members, though, including Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Democrat, and Congresswoman Ann Wagner, a Republican,

have waived their pay or agreed to donate it to a charity.
