Is Jill Docking preparing to make a political comeback?

An e-mail making the rounds from a prominent backer of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Paul Davis states flat out that Docking will be Davis’ running mate.

Davis, the House minority leader, is launching a campaign against Republican incumbent Gov. Sam Browback. The election is in November 2014.

Docking, the Wichita financial planner and former head of the Kansas Board of Regents, ran against Brownback in 1996 for the U.S. Senate.

Leading Democrats approached her about running for governor next year, but she declined. Now she’s preparing to accept the second slot on the ticket, according to the e-mail.

Docking is listed as a co-host on an invitation to a “Meet and Greet” reception with Davis on Thursday in Mission Hills. The special guest is to be former Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, now the secretary of Health and Human Services.

Davis’ campaign on Tuesday would not comment on the Docking talk, but a spokesman said the announcement of Davis’ running mate is expected this fall.
