A North Kansas City state lawmaker is gearing up to run for state auditor.

Second-term Missouri state Rep. Jay Swearingen is telling fellow Democrats that he’ll take on Republican incumbent Tom Schweich next year.

Swearingen, 46, is the only prominent Democrat so far in the race. Schweich is the lone incumbent statewide official in Missouri on the ballot next year.

A formal announcement tour for Swearingen is still a few weeks down the road, Democrats said. Meanwhile,

Swearingen has a Facebook page for his upcoming campaign.
