Sens. Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill

have released a letter asking the administration to declare 22 southern Missouri counties disaster areas, following recent heavy rain and floods.

The declaration, requested by Gov.

Jay Nixon

, would entitle some flood victims and communities to federal aid.

Blunt, you’ll recall, voted against a federal aid package for the victims of Hurricane Sandy along the northeast coast.

So did Sens.

Jerry Moran and Pat Roberts, along with Reps. Kevin Yoder, Lynn Jenkins, Vicky Hartzler, and Sam Graves

, by the way.

The new request is a good reminder of why members of Congress typically support disaster aid spending.

You don’t vote yes because you’re nice. You vote yes because your constituents will need it someday.
