Diana Aguirre, a member of the Wyandotte County Ethics Commission, resigned her seat this week following her battery conviction for an incident involving Unified Government commissioner Ann Murguia.
Aguirre had received a letter from a panel headed by Wyandotte County Chief Judge R. Wayne Lampson that asked her to resign or face removal, said Aguirre lawyer John Biscanin.
Lampson and two other county officials said a conflict of interest existed if Aguirre remained because the panel has oversight over the county commission, including Murguia.
Biscanin said Aguirre opted to step down. She was convicted Aug. 6 of misdemeanor battery following a March 2012 incident in which Murguia had complained Aguirre had forcibly shoved her from behind at a community meeting.
