Heat is on Frank White to run for Jackson County Legislature

Talk about the ol’ switcheroo: White was scorned by the Royals, but as a county legislator would oversee Kauffman Stadium

Sources tell The Buzz that local Democrats have tested Frank White’s name as a possible candidate for Jackson County Legislature.

The findings: White’s name ID is, not surprisingly, through the roof.

“People love him,” one Democrat familiar with poll results said.

White apparently hasn’t signaled — one way or the other — what his intentions are. But some are interested in seeing him run against Sherwood Smith, the long-time firefighter and long-time overseer of Taxpayers Unlimited, Inc., the political action committee of the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 42, one of the city’s most powerful unions.

Smith has said he wants to run for the 1st District at-large seat being vacated by Theresa Garza Ruiz. She’s said to be interested in running for the Kansas City Council.

Think of it: White,

whom the Royals pushed out of the television booth two years ago,

would be involved in overseeing the maintenance of Kauffman Stadium. That, of course, would be him in a power position over his old team that he’s fought so bitterly over the years.
