The GOP’s Midwest Leadership Conference in Kansas City

has landed another big name with the announcement Monday that former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour will attend.

The gathering, from Sept. 13-15 at Crown Center, also will feature Rick Santorum, who made a hard charge at the Republican presidential nomination last year.

Barbour, who took a look at the 2012 race (along with every other Republican in America), but ultimately passed, is mentioned as a potential 2016 contender. He is a former chairman of the Republican National Committee.

The conference is basically an off-election-year get-together aimed at giving party members glimpses of future national and regional candidates.

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who is seeking re-election next year, is also on the bill.
