Rep. Emanuel Cleaver

took his rhetorical gifts to the well of the House this morning to urge rejection of a pared-down Farm Bill.

House Republicans have decided to split the bill into two parts one part dealing with farm subsidies, the other with nutrition programs like food stamps.

The move has angered Democrats, who say food stamps and farm policy have been linked for decades.

But Republicans embarrassed when the full bill collapsed in June have split the bill in order to attract more conservative support. They want to vote today on the farm subsidies and return to food stamps at a later date.

Well know later this morning if the strategy has worked.

Cleaver, a Missouri Democrat, blasted the bill on the floor this morning.

I believe that this bill is doing enormous damage, not only to the body politic, but to this nation, he thundered.

Heres the video:

Well keep tabs on the farm bill as it works through the floor today.
