for their loan for a Grandview, Mo., car wash.
Documents in Clay County Circuit Court show a June 12 garnishment order obtained against Cleaver Co. LLC for $1,271,070.14. The garnishee is Liberty Bank.
It appears the order has been transferred to Jackson County, where a branch of Liberty Bank is located.
A lawyer tells the Buzz that the order is intended to attach whatever assets Cleaver Co. LLC — owned by Cleaver and his wife — may have in that bank.
The garnishment order sets a return date of July 12.
Cleaver settled his case with Bank of America in April
. He has sold the car wash that he borrowed money to buy in 2002.
But even after the settlement, Cleaver owed more than $1.2 million on the loan, which is partially guaranteed by the Small Business Administration.
It isn’t clear how much of Cleaver’s money may be available to satisfy the debt. In 2011, Cleaver’s net worth, according to theCenter for Responsive Politics, was between $448,013 and $1,269,999.
