The House may begin debate this week on a $1 trillion, 10-year farm bill. Politico has a great round-up of the politics here

.

The reactions of the local delegation will be important and fascinating to watch. Reps.

Sam Graves and Vicky Hartzler,

Republicans, will be particularly interesting. Both have ties to agriculture, of course, and both represent highly rural districts.

Constituents are angry about farm bill spending for food stamps, though — while other tea party GOPers are nervous about price help for farmers.

So some Democratic votes may be needed for passage. If food stamps aren’t restored, though, finding those votes may be difficult.

So much is riding on the bill. Sen. Claire McCaskill turned up the heat in a statement Monday.

“Will the U.S. House finally stop sitting on its hands and pass this critical legislation, or will our farmers and ranchers continue waiting around for resources and security that never come?” the statement said.

I'm urging my colleagues in the House to take up legislation and participate in the debate.
