Shocker: Americans have almost no confidence in Congress

Brace yourself for this one:

Only 10 percent of Americans

told Gallup

that they have a “great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in Congress. That’s the lowest level of confidence Gallup has found, not only for Congress, but FOR ANY INSTITUTION ON RECORD.

The military topped this year’s list at 76 percent.

The 10 percent mark for Congress is also the lowest for that institution since 1973 when confidence in Congress came in at 42 percent, Gallup found.

The pollster also found that Democrats, independents, and Republicans all feel the same way about the legislative branch of government. That’s a change from the past and likely reflects the split control of Congress.

For the record, newspapers were held in high regard by just 23 percent of Americans.
