The big money’s flowing in Missouri

In Missouri, also known as the Land of No Campaign Limits, the big bucks are always flowing.

Two recent cases in point:

•  State Auditor Tom Schweich just scored a cool $100,000 from Sam Fox, one of the state’s traditional big-giving Republicans and a former ambassador to Belgium.

Schweich is up for re-election next year and is being talked about as a potential candidate for governor two years later in 2016.

•  A Democrat, state treasurer Clint Zweifel, picked up $10,000 each on Monday from a law firm, a bank and a labor union. Here’s the rub: Zweifel is term limited and can’t seek another four years as treasurer. And he just took himself out of the Democratic race for governor.

The $10,000 donations came from the United Food and Comerical Workers Local 655 political fund in Ballwin, Mo.; the Central Bancompany of Jefferson City; and Thompson Coburn of St. Louis.
