Longtime Lenexa, Kan. City Administrator David Watkins died Monday in Little Rock, Ark., after a weekend fall at his home in nearby Hot Springs. He was 61.
Watkins served as Lenexa’s top official for almost 20 years, leaving in 2003 to take the city manager’s job in Auburn, Ala. He also worked with city governments in Ottawa, Kan. and Bryan, Tex. before becoming the city manager in Hot Springs in 2012.
Watkins “was a tireless advocate for the city of Hot Springs,” said U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman, a Republican, in a statement. “He brought with him a wide range of experience and a passion for his adopted city. I join in prayer for his family and the city staff who worked with him each day.”
