Missouri Congressman Emanuel Cleaver has made spreading the gospel of civility a trademark during his six terms in Congress.
The Kansas City Democrat, a Methodist minister, tells Roll Call, “I want to say, ‘I did nothing today to intentionally hurt anybody.’ I want to be able to say that every night. If I live that way, people will probably like me.”
Turns out a lot of people like him. They like him enough to consider him a candidate for Democratic leadership if a post opens in the next few years.
